God Sleeps in Rwanda: A Journey of Transformation, by Joseph Sebarenzi with Laura Ann Mullane. Published by Atria, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

In 1994, nearly 1 million Rwandans were brutally murdered in the space of just 90 days--the most efficient mass killing of the twentieth century. Among the victims were Joseph Sebarenzi’s parents, seven brothers and sisters, and countless relatives. This book tells the story of Joseph’s harrowing survival of genocide as a child, his escape from the country before the 1994 massacre and how he went on to become speaker of the Rwandan parliament, only to be forced to flee the country to escape an assassination plot against him.

It is also a story of forgiveness. Despite the suffering Joseph endured, he emerged from the experience with a strong belief in the importance of reconciliation--convinced that it is only through forgiveness that we can ensure peace for future generations, as well as our own physical, emotional and spiritual health.
