Laura Mullane is a freelance writer based in the Washington, DC metro area who has written hundreds of targeted articles, speeches, annual reports, press releases, newsletters and text for web sites that have reached thousands of readers over the last decade.
In addition, she has authored two books: God Sleeps in Rwanda: A Journey of Transformation (co-author, Atria/Simon & Schuster, 2009) and Bridges of Opportunity: A History of the Center for Adult Learning and Educational Credentials (American Council on Education, 2001). She has been published in the Washington Post and Hemispheres, United Airlines’ award-winning magazine. She is also a regular contributor and editorial consultant to CenterPoint, the American Council on Education’s e-magazine.
Prior to becoming a full-time freelance writer, Laura was manager of Berkeley Nationwide, a $1.2 million seminar program of the University of California at Berkeley’s continuing education division. She also worked for the American Council on Education as coordinator of outreach and communications for its lifelong learning programs.
Laura graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa from the University of New Mexico in 1993 with a degree in political science and a minor in English.
She now lives in northern Virginia with her husband, David Lyons, two children and two dogs. She is an avid hiker, backpacker and equestrian who competes in the sport of eventing.
